The Combat Veterans For Congress PAC is endorsing the 139th in 12 years, Cdr Jake Ellzey, USNA ’92, USN (Ret) of Midlothian, Texas, a 20-year veteran of the US Navy, who is running for election in a special election, for in the 6th Congressional District of Texas, to fill the vacant seat of former Congressman Ron Wright who passed away after contracting the Wuhan Virus.  Cdr Ellzey is a fiscally conservative candidate who believes in a smaller, leaner federal government, lower taxes, a strong national defense, and he will work to rein in the out-of-control spending by reckless members of Congress.  Cdr Ellzey is an independent thinking Republican, who will champion Veterans rights.  He will continue to work toward unleashing the private sector to grow, create jobs, stimulate private sector business investment, and will work to stop the out-of-control spending by the Pelosi Congress. 

Cdr Ellzey will work to secure the southern border and provide Customs and Border Patrol Agents the needed resources they have been asking for to prevent hundreds of thousands of Illegal Aliens, from over 60 countries, from simply walking across the wide-open Southern Border of the United States.  Cdr Ellzey opposes the HR 1, the Equality Act, that eliminates civil right protections for women, eliminates the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, forces taxpayers to finance political campaigns, allows politicians to take a second salary from their campaigns, an eliminates the ability of states to control their own elections by forcing states to enact same-day voter registration, automatically register voters, implement online voter registration, while allowing voters to cast ballots outside of their precinct, keep ineligible voters on voter rolls in perpetuity, registers voters without verifying eligibility, and allows people to vote without showing any identification.

Jake Ellzey was born on January 24, 1970 in Amarillo, Texas, and grew up in Perryton, Texas.   He knew as a young boy that he wanted to serve his country; his Dad took him flying when he was 7, and the future was set.  Jake set out to become a Naval Academy graduate and fighter pilot.  

Jake received a principal appointment to the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD; he was sworn into the US Navy as a Midshipman on July 6, 1988.   In May 22,1992, Jake graduated from the US Naval Academy, was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy, received a Bachelor of Science Degree, with a major in Political Science, a minor in Spanish, and 60% of his curriculum consisted of engineering courses.  Prior to graduation from the US Naval Academy, Midshipman Ellzey was medically qualified for flight training.  

In January 1993, Ensign Ellzey reported for primary flight training in T-34Cs, at the US Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL.  In November 1993, Ens Ellzey reported to Naval Air Station, Whiting Field, Florida for advance training in TH-57 Helicopters; he was promoted to Lieutenant (junior grade) in May 1994 and received his Wings of Gold in November 1994.   He then reported to NAS North Island, California for H-60 Seahawk training in January 1995. 

Lt(jg) Ellzey flew H-60 Seahawk Helicopters on an aircraft carrier deployment in 1996; in June 1996 Lt(jg) Ellzey was promoted to Lieutenant.  In 1998, Lt Ellzey deployed on his second carrier deployment flying Seahawks; he requested jet transition.  

Lt Ellzey received orders to return to flight school to train as a fighter pilot in the F-14A Tomcat; he reported to Naval Air Station, Kingsville, Texas for advance jet aircraft training in August 1998.  In June 2001, Lt Ellzey was promoted to Lieutenant Commander; he completed qualifications in F-14A fighters in December 2000; he received orders to report VF-14, the Tophatters Squadron.  In April 2001, Lcdr Ellzey deployed aboard the USS Enterprise (CVN-65), and was assigned as the Squadron Commanding Officer's wingman, they were delivering weapons on target at the Tora Bora cave complex the opening night of Operation Enduring Freedom after 9/11.  He was awarded with two Strike Air Medal for Combat Sorties and various Campaign Medals.

Upon return to the United States, his squadron, VF-14, transitioned to a F/A-18E Super Hornet Squadron.  In January 2002, he reported to VFA-122 in CA to train in the advanced F/A-18E Super Hornet Strike Fighters, and qualified in July 2002; he received orders to return to VFA-14, the Tophatters Squadron.  In early 2003, Lcdr Ellzey deployed with VFA-14, aboard USS Nimitz (CVN-68), and the USS Nimitz arrived in the Persian Gulf in April 2003 and in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  While aboard USS Nimitz, from April 2003 to October 2003, VFA-14 flew air support missions in the Iraq theater of operations.   Lcdr Ellzey flew as a section lead strike fighter pilot in the F/A-18E and was awarded two additional Strike Air Medal for Combat Sorties and various Campaign medals.  

Lcdr Ellzey flew 30 combat missions over Baghdad, Tikrit and Fallujah, Iraq with sortie durations ranging from 4 hours to 8.5 hours, in direct support of US combat ground operations.    He participated in pre-planned strikes, close air support, and suppression missions throughout the six months he flew in theatre.  In November 2003, the USS Nimitz with VFA-14 Squadron returned CONUS, based out of NAS Lemoore.  Lcdr Ellzey was awarded two additional Navy Strike Air Medal for Combat Sorties over Iraq and various Campaign medals.

In July 2004, Lcdr Ellzey transitioned to VFA-151, the F/A-18C Hornet Squadron; the Squadron deployed aboard USS Lincoln (CVN-72).  In November 2004, the Lincoln deployed to the Western Pacific.  On December 26, 2004, a Tsunami hit and ravaged Banda Aceh, Sumatra in the Indian Ocean, the Lincoln and the embarked airwing teamed up to save and rescue thousands of Indonesians, they also provided water and logistical support to the beleaguered Indonesians.   

In May 2005, Lcdr Ellzey was transferred to the Pentagon, and was hand selected to be a White House Social Aide in the President George W. Bush White House.  In May 2006 he volunteered to go back to Iraq for combat duty.  He was promoted to Commander in July 2006.  In October 2006, he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, to Anabar Province in the cities of Fallujah and Ramadi, Iraq with SEAL Team FIVE as a Joint Terminal Attack Controller during one of the worst periods of fighting in the war in Iraq conflict.  He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his tour of duty in Iraq, and returned to CONUS in April 2007, where he resumed his duties at the Pentagon.  In August 2007, Lcdr Ellzey was promoted to Commander.  Cdr Ellzey stated he made every effort to ensure the SEALs he served with were not killed in action and considered it his proudest military achievement.  

Cdr Ellzey received orders to report in January 2008 as Executive Officer of the VFA-143, F/A-18E Super Hornet Squadron.  In April 2009, Cdr Ellzey was selected for command of VFA-143 the World Famous Pukin'.  He and his squadron reported aboard the USS Eisenhower (CVN-69) for deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2009 to Afghanistan until August 2010 when he relinquished command in November 2010.

After relinquishing command, Cdr Ellzey was assigned to the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) as the Air Boss in December 2010, deploying to project American sea power globally and protect the Nation’s security interests.  In February 2011, Cdr Ellzey in Ronald Reagan deployed on a Western Pacific Deployment to Asia, including to Korea, and then to Japan in support of rescue operations for the Tohoku earthquake and Tsunami in Japan.  On completion of the 9th deployment in his Navy career, he returned to San Diego aboard the USS Ronald Regan on September 8, 2011.  

Cdr Ellzey successfully completed 700 hours of Combat flying, 124 Combat sorties, and 830 carrier arrested landings, including 340-night traps. during 9 deployments and including on 5 combat tours.  On May 31, 2012, Cdr Ellzey retired from the US Navy.  For service in the US Navy, Cdr Ellzey is the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal (Gold Star in lieu of 2nd award), Meritorious Service Medals (Gold Star in lieu of 2nd award), (8) Strike Air Medals (one with Combat “V”), Joint Services Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat “V”, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal  (two Gold Stars in lieu of 3rd award), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal (Gold Star in lieu of 2nd award), Combat Action Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon (three awards), Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Ribbon, the Battle “E” Ribbon, and numerous Service and Campaign Medals. 

Upon Retirement from the US Navy Cdr Ellzey was appointed by Texas Governor Rick Perry to serve as a Texas Commissioner on the Texas Veterans Commission and was confirmed by the Texas Senate.  Cdr Ellzey continued to fly using his combat experience as an Adversary pilot training young pilots on how to win in the battlespace.  He subsequently returned to Afghanistan as a contractor flying special missions.  He presently flies for a major Texas-based American Airline.  In November 2020, Jake Ellzey ran for and was elected as a Representative for the 10th Legislative District, in the Texas House of Representatives.

Jake is a member of the NRA, the VFW, the American Legion, and the US Naval Academy Alumni Association.  Jake has been married for 15 years to his wife Shelby.  They are the proud parents of two children, McCall age 12, and Jack age 9.  The Ellzey’s are active members of their church in Oak Cliff, Dallas.
