Combat Veterans For Congress-----Embedded Integrity

The Combat Veterans For Congress PAC is re-endorsing the 83rd of 139 endorsed Combat Veteran For Congress in the last 12 years and he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Combat Veterans For Congress PAC, Cong Paul C. Broun, CDR-USNR (MC).  Paul is a fiscally conservative Congressman who will work to reduce the national debt, and will focus on reining in the out of control spending by irresponsible Socialist Democrat members of Congress.  Cong Broun will assist the Free Enterprise System to unleash the private sector, in order to increase economic growth, create jobs new jobs, and stimulate private business sector investment.  Cong Broun resides in Athens, Georgia and is a 4-year veteran of the US Marine Corps Reserve and was an active reservist in the US Navy Medial Corps.  Cong Broun is seeking the Republican nomination for the 10th Congressional District which Cong Jody Hice (R-GA-10) is vacating.   

Paul Broun was born in Atlanta Georgia, on May 14, 1946 and he grew up in Athens, GA.  He attended Athens High School and the University of Georgia in Athens in September 1963.  In May 1964, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps Reserve, took a temporary leave of absence from the University of Georgia, because he was required to serve for 6 months of active duty in the US Marine Corps.   In January 1965 Pvt Paul C. Broun, USMCR returned to the University of Georgia, where he graduated in June 1967 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.  In September 1967, Paul entered the Medical College of Georgia, in Augusta, GA and was awarded a Doctor of Medicine Degree in June 1971.          

 On May 15, 1964, Paul Broun was sworn into the US Marine Corps Reserve at the Naval Air Station (NAS) Atlanta and was assigned to US Marine Corps Reserve Fighter Squadron (VMF 351).  On June 6, 1964, shortly after being inducted in the US Marine Corps Reserve, Pvt Paul Broun, USMCR reported to boot camp at the US Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, South Carolina; he completed boot camp in September 1964.  He was next assigned to the US Marine Corps Mechanical Fundamental School at NAS Jacksonville, FL.  He received advanced training as a Jet Engine Mechanic at NAS Millington, Tennessee.  He completed his training as Jet Engine Mechanic and his 6 months of active duty on December 20, 1964, when he returned to continue his college education at the University of Georgia in January 1965.  

Upon acceptance to matriculate at the Medical College of Georgia, where he was studying to obtain a Medical Doctorate Degree; he was offered a commission as an Ensign in the US Naval Reserve Medical Corps.  Paul resigned from the US Marine Corps Reserve in September 1967, and accepted a commission in the US Naval Reserve Medical Corps on the following day.   In July 1968, Ensign Broun went on active duty at the US Naval Submarine Base, Medical Research Center, in Groton, Connecticut.  Following graduation from the Medical College of Georgia, and in June 1967 he was conferred with a Medical Doctor Degree.   Dr. Broun interned at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Oregon followed by a residency at University Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.  In July 1973 Ensign Broun was commissioned as a Captain in the US Air Force Reserve to support the US Air National Guard in Athens, Georgia, since services of a physician was required to support the US Air National Guard; he completed his assignment in December 1993. 

In July 2010, Dr. Paul Broun was re-commissioned as a Lieutenant Commander in the US Naval Reserve Medical Corps and was assigned to VTU 0614G in Washington, DC.  Over the next 3 years he drilled at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD and the Naval Health Clinic at Quantico, VA providing comprehensive primary care for both the Brigade of Midshipmen at the US Naval Academy and for US Marines assigned to the US Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Virginia.   

In August 12, 2012, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Lcdr Broun was ordered to report to the Commanding General, First Marine Logistic Group (Forward) Marine Expeditionary Force (1st MLG 1st MEF (FWD)) and the International Security Assistance Forces at Camp Leatherneck in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.  Upon arrival in Afghanistan, Lcdr Broun was assigned to Bravo Surgical Company, 1st MLG 1st MEF (FWD).  As an astute clinician, based upon his many years of experience, he provided supervision, mentoring, and training for junior physicians, nurses, physician extenders in the treatment of 2100 patients at Camp Leatherneck, contributing to an incredible 98% return to duty rate, thus maintaining the mission readiness of operational units in the Regional Command Southwest.   

At the busiest Role II Medical Facility in Afghanistan, an austere Forward Resuscitative Surgical site, he participated in the successful delivery of emergency surgical care for 4 critically wounded combat casualties, while working in a Shock Trauma Platoon located at Combat Outpost Shukvani.  On September 13, 2012, Lcdr Broun was ordered back to CONUS to report to VTU 0614G in Washington, DC.  For his critical wartime health service support General John R. Allen, USMC, Commander of the International Assistance Force and the US Forces in Afghanistan issued a Letter of Commendation for contributing greatly to the command’s mission by performing emergency room surgical care of combat casualties in the Role II Medical Facility at Combat Outpost Shukvani.  General Joseph F. Dunford, Jr., USMC, the Assistant Commandant of the US Marine Corps, issued a second Letter of Commendation for filling a critical need of medical support, when military doctors were returning to the US, as part of the drawdown of US Forces.  On May 1, 2014, LCDR Paul Broun was promoted to the rank of Commander.  On May 14, 2014, CDR Paul Broun was honorably discharged from the United States Naval Reserve.  For dedicated service in the US Marine Corps and the US Navy, Cdr Broun was awarded with the Navy Commendation Medal, the NATO Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, a Letter of Commendation from Gen John R. Allen, USMC, and a Letter of Commendation from Assistant Commandant of the US Marine Corps, Gen Joseph F. Dunford, Jr., USMC. 

Dr. Broun moved to Blakely, GA where he entered private practice for 2 years.  He then moved to Americus, GA where he was in private practice in Family Medicine for 23 years.  He moved to the Athens, GA area in December 1998, in an office private practice from January 1999 to June 2002.  In June 2002 he started a full-time house call medical practice where he saw patients at home, at work, or wherever they needed to be seen.  In July 2007, Dr. Broun was elected to the US Congress in a special election to represent the people of Georgia in the 10th Congressional District.  Since leaving Congress in 2009,  Dr. Broun has maintained a medical practice based upon a style that is almost unique in modern times – one devoted entirely to house calls.

Cong Broun is a member of the VFW, the American Legion, Military Order of World Wars, the Marine Corps League, the Navy League, the Reserve Officers Association, MOAA, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Combat Veterans For Congress PAC.  Cong Broun is a Life Member of both the NRA and Gun Owners of America.  He is Past President of the Georgia Sports Shooters Association and the Georgia Wildlife Federation.  Cong Broun is a former Vice President of Safari Club International and is a Life Member of Quail Unlimited, Trout Unlimited, the Federation of Fly Fisherman, Rotary International, and the University of Georgia President’s Club.
