The Combat Veterans For Congress PAC is re-endorsing the 83rd endorsed Combat Veteran For Congress who served in Congress representing the 10th Congressional District of Georgia and didn’t run for re-election to represent his Congressional District in 2014. Dr. Paul Broun is a fiscally conservative candidate who will work to reduce the national debt, and will focus on reining in the out of control spending by Congress. He will work toward unleashing the private sector to grow once again, create jobs, and stimulate private sector business investment. Dr. Paul C. Broun, Cdr-USNR (MC) resides in Harbersham County, Georgia and is a 4 year veteran of the US Marine Corps Reserve and was an active reservist in the US Navy from 2010 to 2014. Dr. Broun is seeking the Republican nomination to run for the 9th Congressional District of Georgia. Dr. Broun was born in Atlanta Georgia, on May 14, 1946 and he grew up in Athens, GA. He attended Athens High School and the University of Georgia (UGA) in Athens in September 1963. In May 1964, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps Reserve, and took a temporary leave of absence from the UGA, because he was required to serve for 6 months of active duty in the US Marine Corps. In January of 1965, Pvt Paul C. Broun, USMCR returned to the University of Georgia, where he graduated in June 1967 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry. In September 1967, Dr. Broun entered the Medical College of Georgia, in Augusta, GA and was awarded a Doctor of Medicine Degree in June, 1971.

On May 15, 1964, Paul Broun was sworn into the US Marine Corps Reserve at the Naval Air Station (NAS) Atlanta and was assigned to US Marine Corps Reserve Fighter Squadron (VMF 351). On June 6, 1964, shortly after being inducted in the US Marine Corps Reserve, Pvt Paul Broun, USMCR reported to boot camp at the US Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, South Carolina. He graduated in September 1964. He was next assigned to the US Marine Corps Mechanical Fundamental School at NAS Jacksonville, FL. He then received advanced training as a Jet Engine Mechanic at NAS Millington, Tennessee. He completed his training as Jet Engine Mechanic and his 6 months of active duty on December 20, 1964, when he returned to continue his college education at the University of Georgia in January 1965. Upon acceptance to matriculate at the Medical College of Georgia, leading to a degree as a medical doctor, he was offered a commission as an Ensign in the US Naval Reserve Medical Corps; he resigned from the US Marine Corps Reserve in September 1967 and he accepted a commission in the US Naval Reserve Medical Corps on the following day. In July 1968, ENS Broun went on active duty at the US Naval Submarine Base, Medical Research Center, in Groton, Connecticut. Following graduation from the Medical College of Georgia, and conferring of his degree as a Medical Doctor in June 1967, Dr. Broun interned at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Oregon followed by a residency at University Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. In July 1973 ENS Broun was commissioned as a Captain in the US Air Force Reserve to support the US Air National Guard in Athens, Georgia, since services of a physician were required to support the US Air National Guard; he completed his assignment in December 1993.

In July 2010, Dr. Paul Broun was re-commissioned as a Lieutenant Commander in the US Naval Reserve Medical Corps and was assigned to VTU 0614G in Washington, DC. Over the next 3 years he drilled at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD and the Naval Health Clinic at Quantico, VA providing comprehensive primary care for both the Brigade of Midshipmen at the Academy and for US Marines assigned to the US Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Virginia. In August 12, 2012, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Lcdr Broun was ordered to report to the Commanding General, First Marine Logistic Group (Forward) Marine Expeditionary Force (1st MLG 1st MEF (FWD)) and the International Security Assistance Forces at Camp Leatherneck in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Upon arrival in Afghanistan, Lcdr Broun was assigned to Bravo Surgical Company, 1st MLG 1st MEF (FWD). As an astute clinician, based upon his many years of experience, he provided supervision, mentoring, and training for junior physicians, nurses, physician extenders in the treatment of 2100 patients at Camp Leatherneck, contributing to an incredible 98% return to duty rate, thus maintaining the mission readiness of operational units in the Regional Command Southwest. At the busiest Role II Medical Facility in Afghanistan, an austere Forward Resuscitative Surgical site, he participated in the successful delivery of emergency surgical care for 4 critically wounded combat casualties, while working in a Shock Trauma Platoon located at Combat Outpost Shukvani. On September 13, 2012, Lcdr Broun was ordered back to CONUS to report to VTU 0614G in Washington, DC. Lcdr Broun was promoted to Commander in May 2014. For his critical wartime health service support General John R. Allen, USMC, Commander of the International Assistance Force and the US Forces in Afghanistan issued a Letter of Commendation for contributing greatly to the command’s mission by performing emergency room surgical care of combat casualties in the Role II Medical Facility at Combat Outpost Shukvani. General Joseph F. Dunford, Jr., USMC, at the time, the Assistant Commandant of the US Marine Corps, and now the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff issued a second Letter of Commendation for filling a critical need of medical support, when military doctors were returning to the US, as part of the drawdown of US Forces. The additional recognition he received for duty under combat conditions was the NATO Medal, and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal. Cdr Broun was Honorably Discharged from the US Naval Reserve on May 14, 2014.

Dr. Broun moved to Blakely, GA where he entered private practice for 23 years. He then moved to Americus, GA where he was in private practice in Family Medicine for 23 years. He moved to the Athens GA area in December 1998, in an office private practice from January 1999 to June 2002. In June 2002 he started a full-time house call medical practice where he saw patients at home, at work, or wherever they needed to be seen. In July 2007, Dr. Broun was elected to the US Congress in a special election to represent the people of Georgia in the 10th Congressional District of Georgia. In 2014, Dr. Broun ran unsuccessfully in the Georgia Republican primary for the US Senate. Dr. Broun completed his term in office as Georgia's 10th District Congressman in January 2015. Dr. Broun announced his candidacy in the Republican primary for US Congress in Georgia’s 9th Congressional District on March 9, 2016 and qualified to be a candidate on March 10, 2016. The Brouns have relocated to Habersham County, Georgia. Dr. Broun will provide proven conservative constitutional leadership for the people of Georgia’s 9th Congressional District. He will be a strong, active advocate for Veterans, active and reserve military personnel, and for a strong national defense.

Dr. Broun is a member of the Military Officer’s Association of America (MOAA), the VFW, the NRA, the American Legion, Military Order of World Wars, the Marine Corps League, the Navy League, the Reserve Officers Association, Gun Owners of America, the Safari Club International, and the Gideon’s. He has been married to his wife, Niki, for 31 years; he has three adult children, Carly, Lucy, and Collins, as well as two grandchildren. Dr. Broun and his wife are active members of the Prince Avenue Baptist Church of Athens, GA.
