The Combat Veterans for Congress PAC is endorsing Lieutenant Colonel Michael G. Waltz, USAR (Green Beret) as the 121th Combat Veteran For Congress in nine years; he is a fiscally conservative candidate who believes in a smaller less intrusive federal government, the rule of law, lower taxes, and a strong national defense.  He will vote for legislation to continue to rebuild the strength of the U.S. Armed Forces, champion veterans rights, protect & support the 2nd Amendment, close the wide open southern border, and provide an affordable and efficient medical health insurance system, and will support initiatives to ensure  fair trade and private sector growth. He will safeguard “Freedom of Speech’ and “Freedom of Religion”.  

Lt Col Waltz has over 22 years of service in the US Army and the US Army Reserve, and resides in St Augustine, FL.  He is running for a vacant Congressional seat in the 6th Congressional District of Florida that was occupied by three term Congressman Ron DeSantis, Lcdr-USNR (JAGC) who is the Republican candidate running for Governor of Florida.  Lt Col Waltz is running against Nancy Soderberg, a Progressive Democrat who subscribes to the United Nations World Government philosophy; she has been active in national Democratic politics since early 1980, and was a Foreign Policy advisor for Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) in the mid-1980s.  She served as a Foreign Policy Advisor for the 1992 Clinton/Gore Presidential Campaign.  In 1993, she was a member of the Clinton administration’s National Security Council.  In 1997, she was appointed to serve as the Alternate Representative at the UN by President Clinton.  In 2011, Nancy was appointed by Barack Obama to serve on the Public Interest and Declassified Board.  She supports the Democrat policy of opposing construction of a wall to close the wide open southern border, supports designation of Sanctuary Cities as safe haven for Illegal Aliens, and she opposes cooperation with ICE Agents in their attempts to deport convicted Illegal Alien felons.

Michael Waltz was born on January 1, 1974 in Boynton Beach, FL, and was raised in Jacksonville, FL.  Michael was raised in a family that had a long history of service in US Navy and in defense of the Republic.  Mike’s maternal grandfather served in the US Navy from 1950 to 1974; his father served in the US Navy from 1965 to 1990.  Mike attended Stanton High School in Jacksonville, and was a member of the Stanton High School Varsity Rowing Crew.  He graduated from Stanton High in June 1992.  In August 1992, Michael entered Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in Lexington, VA as a new Cadet.  While he matriculated at VMI, he was on the College Boxing Team, and also graduated from Airborne School at Ft Benning, GA in June 1993.  In May 1996, Cadet Waltz graduated from VMI with Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Studies, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Reserve.  In June 1996, following commissioning, he reported to Armor Officers Basic at Ft Benning, GA, then he reported to Ranger School in FT Benning.  

In January 1997, 2nd Lt Waltz was transferred to the 1st Armored Brigade at Ft Stewart. GA; he was promoted to First Lieutenant in January 1998.  1st Lt Waltz served with various units of the Maryland Army National Guard, and was promoted to Captain in June 2000.  In March 2002, Captain Waltz was mobilized in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne).  His unit remained in CONUS and completed Special Forces training at Ft Bragg, NC.  CPT Waltz reported to Infantry Captains Career Course at Ft Benning in January 2003, and upon completion of training in May 2003, he reported to the Special Forces Qualifications Course at Ft Bragg.  During his training he became proficient in Spanish, and earned his Green Beret Qualification in March 2004.  CPT Waltz subsequently reported to Pathfinder’s School at Ft Bragg in April 2004; he then reported to Survival Escape and Evasion School at Fort Rucker, AL.

In February 2005, CPT Waltz was again mobilized, and deployed from Camp Shelby, MS for deployment to Bagram, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, with Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group.  Cpt Waltz commanded a Special Forces Detachment and a Special Forces Liaison Element embedded with French, Canadian, Czech, and UAE special operations forces operating in multiple provinces throughout Afghanistan.  He redeployed back to Camp Shelby, MS in January 2006.  Capt Waltz was awarded Bronze Star Medal (with Combat “V” and an Oak Leaf Cluster for 2nd Award), a third Bronze Star Medal (Meritorious), Army Commendation Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and various Service and Campaign Medals. 

In January 2006, CPT Waltz was assigned to various units with the Maryland Army National Guard, and in June 2008, Cpt Waltz was promoted to Major.  In July 2009, Maj Waltz deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from Ft Bragg, NC in Command of Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group.  He commanded Bravo Company in combat operations in four provinces, in the Pakistan search for missing Private Bowe Bergdahl who deserted to the Taliban.  Cpt Waltz’s unit partnered with multiple Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police units and his units personnel suffered multiple casualties.  He redeployed back to Ft Bragg in February 2010.  For combat duty in Afghanistan,  Capt Waltz was awarded a fourth Bronze Star Medal (Meritorious), Army Commendation Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation, NATO Medal, and various Service and Campaign Medals. 

In January 2012, Maj Waltz served with the Texas Army National Guard, and in January 2014, MAJ Waltz was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, he subsequently deployed to Niger in 2014, and Nigeria in 2015 with Special Operations Detachment-Africa, as the Future Plans Officer (J5).  In 2016 Lt Col Waltz was transferred to the Maryland National Guard as the Commander, Special Operations-NATO Unit.  Lt Col Waltz is the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal (with Combat “V”, and an Oak Leaf Cluster for 2nd Award), Bronze Star Medal (Meritorious with Oak Leaf Cluster for 2nd Award), Army Commendation Medal (with Oak Leaf Clusters for 3rd Award), Army Achievement Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (5 awards), Meritorious Unit Commendation, NATO Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, Pathfinders Badge, Parachutist Badge, and various Service and Campaign Medals.

Michael Waltz previously served in multiple policy advisory roles in the Pentagon and President George W. Bush’s White House Staff.   Since 2010, he has served as President and CEO of Metis Solutions, a defense services firm.  Michael Waltz has been endorsed by Congressman Ron DeSantis running for Governor of Florida, SEAL PAC, With Honor, and the Combat Veterans For Congress PAC.  He is married to Brenda Craig, and they are members of the Trinity Episcopal Church in St. Augustine, FL.
