The Combat Veterans For Congress PAC is endorsing the 108th Combat Veteran For Congress in 8 years; he is a fiscally conservative candidate who will work to reduce the national debt, and will focus on reining in the out of control spending by Congress.  He will work toward unleashing the private sector to grow once again, create jobs, and stimulate private sector business investment.  Brig Gen Donald J. Bacon, USAF (Ret) who resides in Papillion, Nebraska is a veteran who served nearly 30 years in the US Air Force.  Brig Gen Bacon is running for election in the 2nd Congressional District of Nebraska against one term Congressman Brad Ashford (D-NE-2) in the general election.  Donald Bacon was born on August 16, 1963 and raised in  Momence, Illinois; his father had served in the US Marine Corps.  In June of 1980, Donald graduated from Grace Baptist Academy in Kankakee, IL.  In 1984, Donald received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL.  Capt Bacon was awarded a Master’s Degree in Management from the University of Phoenix, in Tucson, AZ in June 1995.  In June 1998, Maj Bacon was designated a Distinguished Graduate from the Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, AL.

In May 1985, Donald Bacon enrolled as a student in the US Air Force Officer Training School in Lackland Air Force Base (AFB) in San Antonia, TX.  On August 21, 1985, Donald Bacon was sworn into the US Air Force at Lackland AFB in Texas as a 2nd Lieutenant.  2nd Lt Bacon graduated from Officer Training in October 1985 and entered Officer Intelligence School at Lowry AFB, Colorado; he graduated in May 1986 as a Distinguished Graduate.  2nd Lt Bacon was assigned to the Offensive Missile Analysis Team, 544th Intelligence Analysis Squadron, at Offutt AFB, NEB.  In August 1987 he was promoted to First Lieutenant.  In February 1989, 1st Lt Bacon was assigned as an Intel Briefer at Strategic Air Command Headquarters at Offutt AFB, and in August 1989 he was promoted to Captain.  In February 1990, Capt Bacon was assigned as an Indications and Warning Officer for the 13th Air Force a Clark AFB, Philippines, and later that year in August 1990, he was assigned as Squadron Intel Officer for the 3rd Tactical Fighter Squadron at Clark AFB.  

In February 1991, Capt Bacon reported as a student to Navigator and Electronic Warfare School at Mather AFB, CA. Upon graduation as a Distinguished Graduate in April 1992, he reported as Mission Crew & Flight Commander, 41st Electronic Combat Squadron at Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ.  In July 1994, he was assigned as Executive Officer of the 355th Operations Group at Davis-Monthan.  In February 1996, he was assigned as Asst Director of Operations 41st Electronic Combat Squadron at Davis-Monthan, and then he deployed to the UAR and Bahrain on two 3-month tours.  In June 1997, he was promoted to Major.  In August 1997, Maj Bacon reported as a student at Air Command and Staff College, Maxwell AFB, AL, and graduated as a Distinguished Graduate in June 1998.

In June 1998, Maj Bacon reported as Chief Electronic Warfare Training, 45th Reconnaissance Squadron and Chief of Wing Protocol 55thWing, Offutt, AFB.  In May 2000, he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.  In June 2000, Lt Col Bacon reported as operations Officer, 355thOperations Support Squadron, 41st Electron Squadron at Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson, AZ.  In June 2001, he was assigned as Executive Officer to the Commander 12th Air Force at Davis-Monthan.  On March 2002, Lt Col Bacon took command of the 41st Electronic Combat Squadron.  In November 2002, he deployed from Davis-Monthan AFB to Doha, Qatar in support of Iraqi Freedom.  The Combat Squadron flew into Iraq to target and mask Iraqi communications and radar systems over a six month period.  In May 2003, the 41st Electronic Combat Squadron returned to Davis-Monthan AFB for combat service in Iraq and Lt Col Bacon was awarded a Bronze Star Medal, an Aerial Achievement Medal, and various Service and Campaign Medals. 

On August 2003, Lt Col Bacon reported as a student to the National War College at Fort Leslie McNair, Washington, DC.  Upon graduation in June 2004, he was reported as Executive Officer to the Chief of Warfighting Integration and Chief Information Officer, Secretary of the Air Force, Headquarters Air Force, Washington, DC; in July 2005, he was promoted to Colonel.  In April 2006, Col Bacon took command of the 55th Electronic Combat Group in Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson, AZ.  In May 2007, Col Bacon deployed from Davis-Monthan AFB to Baghdad, Iraq in support of Iraqi Freedom, as Chief of the Special Operations and Intelligence Information Operations, Multi-National Force, Iraq.  He supported Headquarters Special Operations Command by conducting information operations supporting Psych Ops.  Col Bacon departed for Ramstein Air Base in June 2008.  For combat service in Iraq, Col Bacon was awarded a second Bronze Star Medal.

In July 2008, Col Bacon took command of the 435th Air Base Wing, Ramstein Air Base, Germany.  In June 2009, he was assigned as Deputy Commander, Third Air Force, Ramstein Air Base.  In March 2011, he was assigned to Offutt AFB, NE as the 55th Wing Commander, leading the largest 23 Wings in Air Command.  In May 2011, Col Bacon was promoted to Brigadier General.  In July 2014, he was assigned as Director of ISR Strategy, Plans, Doctrine, and Force Development, AF/A2, Headquarters, US Air Force, Washington , DC.  Brig Gen Bacon retired from active duty and was Honorably Discharged from the US Air Force on October 31, 2014.  His awards include the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit Medal (with oak leaf cluster for 2nd award), Bronze Star Medal (with oak leaf cluster for 2ndaward), Meritorious Service Medal (with 4 oak leaf clusters for 5th award), Aerial Achievement Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal (with 2 oak leaf clusters for 3rd award), Air Force Achievement Medal (with oak leaf cluster for 2nd award), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Award, and various Campaign and Service Medals.

On September 1, 2015 to March 23, 2016, Brig Gen Bacon accepted a position as a Military Advisor for Congressman Jeff Fortenberry in the Bellevue Congressional District Office.  In October 1, 2015, Brig GEN Bacon accepted a position as an Assistant Professor at Bellevue University in Bellevue, NB.  Brig Gen Bacon is a VFW Life Member, a Vice President of the Air Force Association Aksarben Chapter, a Chaplain for the Heartland of America Chapter of the Military Officer’s Association, a member of the NRA, the Nebraska Firearms Association, the 55th Wing Association, the American Legion, the Bellevue Nebraska’s Gideon Chapter (former President), and is a volunteer at the Salvation Army’s Kroc Center for Youth For Christ in Omaha.  Brig Gen Bacon and his wife Angie of 37 years are active members of the Lifespring Church of Bellevue, Nebraska.  They have four children Donnie age 31, Alex age 26, Austin age 21, and Jessica age 20.
