The Combat Veterans For Congress PAC is endorsing Lt Col Robert “Buzz” Patterson, USAF (Ret) as the 135th Combat Veteran For Congress in eleven years.  He is running for Congress in the 7th Congressional District of California.  Lt Col Patterson resides in Orangevale, CA and served in the US Air Force for 20 years.  Lt Col Patterson is a fiscally conservative candidate who will work to reduce the national debt, strengthen the US Armed Forces, will protect the Freedom of Religion and Speech guaranteed in the US Constitution, will defend traditional Family Values, and will provide “true” representation for Veterans and the average American voter in his Congressional District.  He understands issues facing members of the US Armed Forces and Veterans and will take action to ensure they are cared for both while serving their country and in retirement.  Lt Col Patterson supports The Free Enterprise System, will work to stop the out of control spending by irresponsible members of Congress, and will support securing the southern borders, in order to prevent the entry of drugs, weapons, MS-13 gang members, terrorists, human traffickers, convicted Illegal Aliens, and other Illegal Aliens bent on violating US Immigration Laws by entering the United States without permission.  He is running against 4 term Congressman Ameresh “Ami” Bera (D-CA-7).

Cong Bera is on the far-left fringe of American politics and votes in lock step with Pelosi in Congress.  Bera backed the Fast Track Trans-Pacific Trade Bill (TPP), which cedes US sovereignty to an international tribunal, supported sequestration that has hollowed out the US Armed Forces, supports the Socialist Common Core agenda, supports the Democrats “open border” policy allowing millions of illegal Aliens to simply walk across a wide-open border.  He voted against cutting taxes, a balanced budget, closing the wide-open southern border, support for Israel, and against the National Defense Act.  Additionally, Bera voted for the impeachment of President Trump, for late term abortions, for the Paris Climate Accord, restoring net neutrality, the carbon tax, federal funding for abortions, voted to restrict gun rights granted by the 2nd Amendment, voted to give 1.2 million Illegal Aliens amnesty regardless of their criminal records, voted for HR 5, the Equality Act, that eliminates the civil rights protections for women, and eliminates the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. 

Bera has joined the far left Progressive/Socialist Caucus in the House of Representatives with Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rep Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rep Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), and Rep Ayanna Pressley (D-MA).  They support the sweeping “New Green Deal”; a Socialist program proposed by Rep Ocasio-Cortez, at a cost of $93 trillion, or approximately $600,000 per household, according to a study co-authored by the former director of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.  Bera and the 4 above listed congresswomen also proposed the elimination of all private and business health insurance, to be replaced by a government controlled Universal Health Care program.  According to the nonpartisan Mercatus Center at George Washington University, such a program would cost of $36 trillion, or approximately $232,258 per household. 

Buzz Patterson was born on October 5, 1955, in Chapel Hill, NC, and is the son of a career US Air Force officer and pilot.  In his youth, his family was transferred from one duty station to another, and Buzz was raised in North Carolina, Oklahoma, Ohio, Texas, the Philippines, Norway, Virginia, and Arkansas.  Buzz also comes from a family with an extended history of service in the US Armed Forces.   His paternal grandfather, Ernest B. Patterson, was a Command Sergeant Major in the US Army, 3rd Infantry Division in France during WWI, and was the recipient of the Silver Star for combat action.  Buzz’s maternal grandfather, Edward Mann, was a US Marine who saw combat at Guadalcanal in the Pacific Theatre of operations during WWII.  Buzz’s father, is Major General Bob Patterson, USAF (Ret), who served his country honorably for 33 years, flying AC-130 Spectre Gunships in Vietnam from August 1968 to February 1969, eventually commanding the Air Force Special Operations Command at Hurlburt Field, FL and retiring from active service in 1988.  

While in high school Buzz played varsity basketball at West Springfield High School in Springfield, VA from 1971-1973 and continued playing basketball when he transferred to Jacksonville High School in Jacksonville, AR, from 1973-1974.  He graduated from Jacksonville High in June 1974.  In June 1978, Buzz graduated from Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, VA with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science.  In June 1988, Capt Patterson earned his advanced degree from Webster University in St Louis, MO with a Master of Arts Degree in Business Administration.  Maj Patterson attended the Air Command & Staff College, Maxwell AFB, AL graduating as a Distinguished Graduate in June 1993.

On August 1, 1981, Buzz Patterson raised his right hand, swore to protect and defend the US Constitution, and enlisted in the US Air Force at the US Air Force Recruiting Command in St Louis, MO.  He attended the Flight Screening Program in August, and was enrolled in Officer Training School (OTS) at Lackland Air Force Base, TX.  On December 22, 1981 Cadet Patterson was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Force.  In February 1982, 2nd Lt Patterson was assigned to Undergraduate Pilot Training at Columbus Air Force Base, MS, and completed training in February1983.  He was immediately transferred to Altus Air Force Base in Oklahoma to go through initial C-141 Aircraft Qualification. 

Following completion of qualification, in June 1983, he was transferred to USAF Combat Survival Escape and Evasion School (SERE) at Fairchild Air Force Base, WA, and completed training in July 1983.  In June 1983, 2nd Lt Patterson reported to the 20th Military Airlift Squadron, 437 Military Airlift Wing, Military Airlift Command at Charleston Air Force Base, SC, and was assigned as a Co-Pilot to the C-141.  On October 25, 1983, 2nd Lt Patterson deployed from Charleston AFB as a C-141 Co-Pilot with the 437th Military Airlift Wing in support of Operation Urgent Fury.  During this operation, 2ndLt Patterson transported elements of the 82nd Airborne from Fort Bragg, NC, to support combat operations on the island of Grenada.  This was President Ronald Reagan’s intervention to halt the expansion of the Soviet Union into Cuba and the Caribbean.  On November 1, 1983, upon the termination of hostilities with the Cubans on Grenada, 2nd Lt Patterson returned to Charleston.  For support of combat operation on Grenada he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. 

In April 1984, 2nd Lt Patterson qualified as an Aircraft Commander.  In June 1985, he was upgraded to an Instructor Pilot for C-141 Aircraft in support of the 20th Military Airlift Squadron; in December 1985 he was promoted to First Lieutenant.  In March 1987, 1st Lt Patterson reported to Squadron Officers School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, and upon completion of training in June 1987, he returned to the 20th Military Airlift Squadron at Charleston, AFB as an Instructor Pilot.  In December 1987, 1st Lt Patterson was promoted to Captain, and in May 1988,  Capt Patterson was chosen to participate in a highly-selective junior officer development program, reporting as a Plans & Programs Staff Officer, at HQ Military Airlift Command, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.  There, he worked on the MAC Program Objective Memorandum, a Six Year Development Plan, for future planning, budgeting and programming for the Air Force and major commands.  In June 1990, Capt Patterson was selected to be Chief Executive Officer for Major General James McCombs, USAF, the senior staff officer for the headquarters directorate.  In that assignment, Capt Patterson ran the General’s office, schedule, and travel; the staff working for the General worked through Capt Patterson. 

In March 1992, Capt Patterson reported to the Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell AFB.  In August 1992, he was promoted to Major, and in June 1993 Maj Patterson completed his studies as a Distinguished Graduate.  In July 1993, Maj Patterson reported as C-141 Operations Officer nd Flight Examiner at Travis Air Force Base, CA.  In May 1994, Maj Patterson deployed from Travis Air Force Base in support of Operation Provide Promise to Rhein-Main Air Base in Frankfurt, Germany,  in support of Operation Provide Promise.  There, he assumed command of a provisional squadron assigned to the 37th Airlift Squadron at the 435th Tactical Airlift Wing.  Maj Patterson’s squadron was tasked with supporting the NATO Joint Operation into Sarajevo, Bosnia, during the war in the Balkans.  Maj Patterson flew 15 Combat Missions, and on July 15, 1994 he transferred command of the squadron, returning to Travis, AFB.  For Combat Operations he was awarded the Air Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal. 

In May 1996, Maj Patterson was hand-selected by the White House to serve at the right hand of President Bill Clinton as Air Force Military Aide to the President of the United States.  In this capacity, Patterson carried the “nuclear football” and was operational commander for all military units assigned to the White House. These units included Air Force One, Marine One, the White House Communications Agency, and the White House Transportation Agency. 

In January 1998, Maj Patterson was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.  In May of 1998, following his White House assignment, Lt Col Patterson was selected to command Cadet Group 3 at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO.  He was both the Commander of Cadet Group 3 for the Commandant, and was also, concurrently, flying as a pilot for the Air Force jump program and skydiving team; he completed his assignment in June 2001. 

On September 1, 2001, Lt Col Robert “Buzz” Patterson retired and was Honorably Discharged from the US Air Force after 20 years of Active Service.  His military Awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters for 4 awards),  the Air Medal (for 15 Combat Missions), Air Force Commendation Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster for second award), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award (with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters for 4th award), Combat Readiness Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal (with Service Star), and various Service and Campaign Medals. 

Lt Col Patterson commenced training as a Delta Air Lines pilot on June 20, 2001.  He began flying the McDonnell-Douglas-88 as First Officer out of Atlanta, but was soon furloughed as a result of the economic impacts in the aftermath of 9/11.  From 2003 to 2010, Lt Col Patterson turned to a career for writing and speaking.  To date, he has written four non-fiction books, two of which became New York Times’ bestsellers list, “Dereliction of Duty” in 2003, and “Reckless Disregard” in 2004.  In January 2006, Buzz was hired as the Chief Operating Officer for David Horowitz Freedom Center in Los Angeles, CA; resigning in June 2007.  In February 2008, Buzz Patterson returned to Delta Air Lines to fly as First Officer, and over the next 8 years he flew the B-737-700/800/900 aircraft out of Los Angeles, CA, until September 2016, when he retired to pursue service to our nation in the political realm.

If you have friends, associates, or relatives who know voters in the 7th Congressional District of California, kindly pass this E-mail on to them, and ask them to support Lt Col Patterson by working in his campaign, providing financial support for his campaign in any amount, and/or by networking with others who would be willing to support his campaign.  The military is one of the few remaining institutions producing the caliber of men and women needed to restore this nation to the greatness our Founding Fathers envisioned.  We have endorsed another Combat Veteran For Congress that General George Washington would have approved of.  He is a Veteran who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America” for an amount “up to and including his life.”
