The Combat Veterans For Congress PAC is endorsing Captain Jason L. Church, USA (Ret), Esq. (Ranger Qualified) (Wounded Warrior) as the 126th Combat Veteran For Congress to be endorsed in 10 years, to run for Congress in the 7th Congressional District in Wisconsin in 2020.  CPT Church is a fiscally conservative candidate who believes in a smaller, leaner federal government, lower taxes, a strong national defense, will champion Veterans rights, and he will work to rein in the out of control spending by reckless and irresponsible members of Congress.  

CPT Church resides in Hudson, Wisconsin, and had 3 years and 3 months of service in the US Army, before he was medically retired as a double amputee Wounded Warrior.  He is running in a Special Election to fill the vacant seat previously held by 4 term Republican Congressman Sean Duffy, who voluntarily retired this year to spend more time with his growing family.  The Special Primary will be held on February 18, 2020, and the Special Election will be held on May 12, 2020.

Jason Church was born on February 23, 1989 in Menomonie, WI and was raised in a middle-income family.  Jason’s paternal grandfather, maternal grandfather, uncle, father, and brother all served or are serving in the US Army.  Jason comes for a family who have honorably served in the US Army for over 70 years.  His paternal grandfathers, Sergeant Jason F. Church, served in the Army from 1951 to1954, and his maternal grandfather, Corporal Alfred Karn, served in the US Army from 1950 to 1953 during the Korean War, but neither grandfather was involved in combat. 

Jason’s uncle, Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Church, served with the Army Military Police.  His father, Colonel David Church. USMA ’84, USA (Ret), served on active duty in the US Army from 1984 to 1989, subsequently served on Army Reserve duty, and was activated 3 times while on reserve duty.  Col Church deployed to Afghanistan while CPT Church was recovering from his severe injuries at Walter Reed, and wore his son’s boots when deployed in Afghanistan in 2014.  CPT Church’s brother, Jake, was an US Army Reservist while in college from 2015 to 2019, and has been on active duty at Fort Bragg, NC, since April 2019, as an infantry soldier with the rank of Specialist.   

Jason played football, hockey and was a track athlete in high school, and graduated from Menomonie High School in Menomonie, WI in June 2007.  Jason was accepted to the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, Wisconsin in 2007, and he became a member of the US Army Reserve Officer Training Corps.  For four years, Jason played and lettered in varsity football on the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse football team.  Jason Church graduated from the University of Wisconsin in May 2011 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science. 

In June 2015, CPT Jason Church, USA (Ret) received a Master of Arts Degree in Security Studies from Georgetown University in Washington, DC.  In June 2018, CPT Church received a Juris Doctorate Degree in Law from Wisconsin Law School in Madison, Wisconsin.  

On May 15, 2011, Jason was sworn into the US Army (Infantry Branch) and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant at Fort Benning, GA.  In July 2011, 2nd LT Church reported to US Army Infantry Officer Basic Course at Fort Benning, Georgia where he completed the Basic Course, Airborne School in September 2011, and Ranger School in December 2011.  Upon completion of training at Fort Benning in December 2011, 2nd LT Church was assigned to Comanche Company, 1-23 Infantry Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Division), Ft. Lewis, Washington. 

In April 2012, 2nd LT Church deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as 1stInfantry Platoon Leader, Comanche Company.  In May 2012, Comanche Company was posted to Forward Operating Base Zangabad, in the Panjwai District of Kandahar Province.  2nd LT Church led his platoon to engage the Taliban in direct combat, assisted local Afghan forces in training, and oversaw day to day operational planning and operations of his platoon.  

Panjwai is the home of the Taliban, and day to day, the platoon was engaged in firefights with the Taliban.  The platoon was in consistent TICs (Troops in Contact) with Taliban forces.  2nd LT Church’s other duties included establishing relationships with local village leaders and/or negotiating on behalf of NATO forces with Afghan leadership.  The duration of his combat operations was shortened due to an IED blast injury on August 23, 2012, resulting in the amputation of both of his legs below the knee.  

2nd LT Church medically evacuated to Germany, then transported to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington, DC.  He recovered as an inpatient at Walter Reed while undergoing 20 surgeries from August 2012 to October 2012; he then continued to receive medical treatment as an outpatient.  On May 1, 2013, 2nd LT Church was promoted to First Lieutenant, while still an outpatient.  On July 30, 2014, 1st LT Church was promoted to Captain, and on July 31, 2014, Captain Church was Honorably Discharged from the US Army.

For heavy combat action in the face of the enemy, CPT Church was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (Oak Leaf Cluster for 2nd award), the Combat Infantry Badge, the Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and various Service Medals; his military awards also include the Parachutist Badge, and the Ranger TAB.  

After the July 31, 2014 Honorable Discharge from the US Army, Jason continued his graduate education, and was hired following receipt of his Master’s Degree in Security Studies from Georgetown, in September 2015 by US Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) as his Wisconsin South Central Regional Director, until May 2017.  In June 2017, Jason was hired as a Field Representative for Wisconsin’s Department of Veterans Affairs until January 2018.  Following receipt of his Law Degree in June 2018, Jason was hired as the Wisconsin State Counsel and Northwest Regional Director for US Senator Ron Johnson’s office, until September 2019, when he declared his plan to run for Congress in the 7th Congressional District.  

Jason is a member of the VFW, the NRA, the American Legion, the University of Wisconsin Alumni Association, and a member of Oak Ridge Lutheran Brethren Church in Menomonie, WI.  Jason received the endorsements of endorsed Combat Veteran For Congress Senator Tom Cotton, CPT-USA, (R-AR-Senate), Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA-Senate), by endorsed Combat Veteran For Congress Congressman Brian Mast, SSgt-USA (Ret) (Ranger) (EOD) (WW) (R-FL-18), endorsed Combat Veteran For Congress Congressman Daniel R.
