The Combat Veterans For Congress PAC is endorsing the 66th Combat Veteran For Congress; he is a fiscally conservative candidate who will work to rein in the out of control spending by Congress and the Administration.  He will work towards unleashing the private sector to grow once again, create jobs, and stimulate private sector business investment.  Col John M. House, USA (Ret) http://johnhouse.us/ resides in Midland, Georgia; he is a 26 year US Army veteran, and is running for election in the 2nd Congressional District of Georgia.  Col House will be challenging one of the most liberal members of Congress, 10 terms incumbent Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. who is a Pelosi clone and has consistently voted to increase taxes, spending, the debt ceiling, and expanding the federal budget.  John House was born and grew up in Columbus, Georgia on October 12, 1953.  John’s dad, a World War II US Marine veteran, worked for the railroad, and his mother was the organist at their church.  In June 1971, John graduated from Columbus High School in Columbus, GA as the class valedictorian.  Following graduation he entered Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama on a 4 year ROTC Scholarship; he graduated with Highest Honors and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business in June 1975.  In June 1979, John received a Master’s in Business Administration from Auburn.  In June 1987, Major House, USA was awarded a Master’s of Arts in History from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas.  Major House graduated from the School of Advanced Military Studies at the US Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, with a Master’s of Military Arts and Science in June 1989.  In June of 1996, Lieutenant Colonel House received a master’s of Arts in National Security Studies from the US Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.  A Ph.D. in Business Administration (Public Administration concentration) was conferred upon Colonel House in December 2005 upon graduation from Northeast University in Prescott Valley, Arizona.

Upon designation as a Distinguished Military Graduate at Auburn, Cadet John House received a commission as a Second Lieutenant, Field Artillery, on June 6, 1975 in Auburn, Alabama. While still an ROTC Cadet at Auburn, Cadet House previously graduated from Army Airborne School and Army Ranger School qualifying for his Parachute Badge and Ranger Tab.  At graduation 2nd Lt House received orders to the 82nd Airborne Division as a Forward Observer.   After becoming the Battery Fire Direction Officer in December 1976, 2nd Lt House was promoted to First Lieutenant on June 4, 1977.    1st Lt House later assumed the duties of a Battery Executive Officer in September 1977.  While in Graduate School at Auburn University, he was promoted to Captain on November 18, 1979.  In September 1980, Captain House was transferred to the 1st Armored Division at Pinder Barracks in Zirndorf, Germany, as a Battalion Fire Direction Officer for 6-14 Field Artillery (FA) moving up to Command of Service Battery 6-14 FA in 1981; in October 1982 he took command of F Battery, 29th Field Artillery  at the Grafenwoehr Training Area in Germany.  On July 1, 1986, Captain House was promoted to Major.  In July 1989, Major House was transferred to the 24th Infantry Division (Mechanized).  On August 23, 1990, in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, the 24th Division deployed to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and took up a position in the northern desert of Saudi Arabia, just south of the Kuwaiti border.  Major House was assigned the billet of Operations Officer (S3) for the 3rd Battalion, 41st Field Artillery.  The 3rd Battalion was the Direct Support Field Artillery, 155mm Cannon Battalion for the 2nd Brigade of the 24th Infantry division (Mechanized); on completion of hostilities in Kuwait and Iraq, the Division returned to CONUS on March 21, 1991.  For service in support of Operation Desert Storm, Major House was awarded the Bronze Star Medal (meritorious service) and various campaign and service medals.  On July 1, 1992, Major House was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel; in June 1993 he was transferred to Germany for his second tour of duty with the 1st Armored Division as the Battalion Commander of the 6-29 FA. 

In July 1995, LTC House was transferred to the US Naval War College in Newport, RI, where he received a Master’s of Arts in National Security Studies in June 1996 and remained on the staff for another year.  He was transferred to the US Army Training and Doctrine Command Headquarters , and was promoted to Colonel on February 1, 1998.  In May 1998, Colonel House was transferred to the 19th Theatre Army Area Command at Camp Humphreys, Korea, as the Commander of US Army Area Support Activity, Area III, the Camp Humphreys garrison command.  In June 2000, Col House was transferred to the US Army Forces Command at Fort McPherson in Atlanta, GA, as Chief of the Advanced Concepts Division in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations. On July 31, 2001, Colonel House received an Honorable Discharge after spending 26 years in the US Army.  In addition to the Bronze Star Medal, his awards include the Legion of Merit Medal (2 awards), the Meritorious Service Medal (5 awards), the Army Commendation Medal (3 awards), the Navy Commendation Medal, The Army Achievement Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Master Parachute Badge, and the Ranger Tab.   

Since retirement from the US Army, COL House has worked as a consultant and Army civilian employee while traveling extensively throughout the US.  John is now the President of JM Planning & Research, a consulting business.  He has taught for Walden University, Columbus State University, and Northcentral University.  He has been a freelance writer with a weekly column in the Columbus, GA “Ledger-Enquirer” newspaper.  John has published one book, “Why War? Why an Army?”, a book chapter in a Homeland Security textbook, and over 250 periodical articles and newspaper columns.  He was a volunteer at the National Infantry Museum in Columbus, GA, prior to announcing his intention to run for Congress, and continues his regular volunteer work with several community organizations and in several ministries at his church.  He is on the Board of Directors for the Southeastern Vet to Vet Peer Support Group, which is focused on helping Veterans with PTSD.   

COL House has been endorsed by the Afghanistan and Iraq Veterans for Congress and Mike Keown (the last endorsed Republican candidate to run in the 2nd Congressional District). He is a member of Kiwanis Club of Greater Columbus, Veterans Action Committee of Columbus, Military Order of the World Wars, America Society for Public Administration, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, the NRA, Gun Owners of America, Georgia Carry, VFW, the American Legion, 24TH Infantry Division Association, Military Officers Association of America, Georgia Right to Life, Georgia Farm Bureau, and Georgia Parent Teacher Association.  COL House and his wife Marilyn of 38 years have four daughters, Shannon 35, Amanda 33, and twins Mary and Carole both 24; they attend St. Luke United Methodist Church in Columbus, GA.
