Wright McLeod, USN (Ret), USNA ’86 http://www.WrightMcLeod.com resides in Augusta, Georgia and is a 20 year veteran of the US Navy. CDR McLeod is running for the Republican nomination in the 12th Congressional District of Georgia. He is running for the seat held by 4 term Congressman John Barrow (D-GA-12) who is a Pelosi clone and has consistently voted to increase taxes, spending, the debt ceiling, and expanding the federal budget. Wright McLeod was born on December 3, 1963 in Augusta, Georgia and graduated in June 1982 from Westside High School in Augusta, Georgia, and was accepted as a Midshipman at the U S Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. In May 1986, Midshipman McLeod received a Bachelor of Science Degree (BS) in Political Science from the US Naval Academy. In May 1994 LT McLeod received a Master of Arts (MA) in National Security Studies from the Walsh School of Foreign Policy at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. In November 1994, LT McLeod completed a course in British Military History of the Twentieth Century at St. Edmund Hall at Oxford University in Oxfordshire, England. In May 2000, LCDR McLeod obtained a Juris Doctorate (JD) from the University of Georgia, School of Law in Athens, Georgia.
Midshipman First Class McLeod was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy upon graduation from the US Naval Academy in May 1986. In September 1986 Ensign MclEODreported to Naval Flight Officer Training at Pensacola, FL; he received his wings as a F-14 Weapons Officer/Navigator in January 1988, and went on to F-14 Tomcat Training at Miramar Naval Air Station, San Diego, CA. Upon completion of Tomcat Training in June 1989, LT Junior Grade McLeod reported as the Scheduling Officer to Fighter Squadron ONE (VF-1). The VF-1 deployed aboard the USS Ranger (CV-61) in November 1990 for Operation Desert Storm. During combat operations, LT (jg) McLeod completed 53 Combat Missions and was promoted to Lieutenant on September 1, 1990, and Ranger returned to CONUS in May 1991, upon conclusion of combat operations. For Combat Missions flown during Operation Desert Storm, LT McLeod was awarded with the Air Medal (with 2 Gold Stars for the 2nd and 3rd award), the Naval Unit Commendation, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Kuwait Liberation Medal, and other service and campaign medals. Follow on billets included assignment to the Joint Operations Division (J-3) at the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Pentagon in June 1992; he was transferred to Fighter Squadron ONE FIVE FOUR (VF-145) in July 1993. LT McLeod reported as Operations Officer of VF-145 in Atsugi, Japan in July 1993. During that assignment he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander on August 1, 1996, logged 1,700 flight hours, and made 350 carrier arrested landings. In January 1997, LCDR McLeod was assigned as the F-14 Tomcat Weapons Officer at Headquarters, Fighter Wing, in Virginia Beach, VA. In August 1997, LCDR McLeod resigned his active duty Commission and received an Honorable discharge from the US Navy. On November 2, 1997 he accepted a commission in the US Naval Reserve as Lieutenant Commander. LCDR McLeod was assigned as an Air Order of Battle Analyst, Joint Analyst Center, European Command. In February 2000 LCDR McLeod was assigned as the Operations Office for Carrier Group TWO, and while assigned he was promoted to Commander on November 1, 2001. In November 2002, CDR McLeod was assigned as the Executive Officer, USS Harry Truman (CVN-75) for Carrier Group TWO. CDR McLeod resigned his US Naval Reserve commission in May 2006 and received an Honorable Discharge. CDR McLeod’s personal awards include the Air Medal (three awards), the Joint Services Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal (three awards), the Navy Unit Commendation, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, in addition to various campaign and service medals.
Upon graduation from the University of Georgia Law School in May 2000, CDR McLeod was employed by the law firm of Hunter, Maclean, Exley & Dunn, P. C. in Augusta, Georgia where he handled all aspects of real estate transactions. His area of specialization included commercial development, residential real estate closings, construction contracts, and land use planning. In February 2002, CDR McLeod formed his own law firm, Wright McLeod, Attorneys at Law, and is the Managing Director of a 3 office, 30+ member law firm specializing in real estate and estate planning. From February 2010 to December 2011 he served as a Municipal Judge in Hephzibah, Georgia. CDR McLeod remains active as a Lifetime Member of the US Naval Academy Alumni Association, the NRA, and the VFW. In addition he is a member of the American Legion, the US Navy League, the Downtown Kiwanis Club of Augusta, the Hephzibah Agriculture Club in Hephzibah, GA, the Beech Island Agricultural Club in Beech Island, SC, the Georgetown University Alumni Association, and the University of Georgia Alumni Association. CDR McLeod has been married to his wife Sheri for nearly 25 years, and they have 3 daughters; Collier Elizabeth (age 21), a rising senior at Washington and Lee University; Margaret Wright (age 18), an incoming freshman at Wake Forest University; and Grace Walker (age 12); a rising 7th grader at Augusta Preparatory Day School. The McLeods are active members of the Church of the good Shepherd in Augusta. CDR McLeod has been endorsed by FreedomWorks PAC, Georgia Right to Life, and the Combat Veterans For Congress PAC.
