Combat Veterans For Congress---Embedded Integrity

The Combat Veterans For Congress PAC is endorsing the 131st Combat Veteran For Congress in 10 years; Sergeant Thomas J. Norton, USANG is a fiscally conservative candidate who will work to rein in the out of control spending by irresponsible members of Congress, work toward reducing the national debt, support increasing the strength of the US military, will support the Freedom of Speech & Religion, will support the 2nd Amendment’s Right to Bear Arms, support closing the wide open southern border, and support the Free Enterprise System to stimulate private sector business development.  Sgt Norton of Jenison, MI, has served hiscountry proudly in the US Army National Guard for 6 ½  years and is running in the 3rd Congressional District of Michigan, for the seat of 5 term Congressman Justin Amash (I-MI-3). 

In 2019, Amash changed his party affiliation from Republican, to Independent after he called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump, then voted along with Democrats to impeach President Trump.  In his 5 terms he has refused to help Veterans having personal difficulties after returning from combat----Amash’ office said “it wasn’t their problem”.  Amash supports decreasing US military spending, and refused to vote to defund Planned Parenthood.  He joined 161 Democrats to oppose an alternative balanced budget bill without a federal spending cap.  Amash was one of eight members of Congress who voted against a $225 million package to restock Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense, which passed with 398 members in support.  Amish voted against a measure creating an international tribunal to try members of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) who committed genocide against Christians and religious minorities in the Middle East (it passed 392–3).  In July 2018, House Republicans introduced a resolution supporting the officers and personnel of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Amash was the only Republican in the chamber to vote against the resolution.  In December 2018, Amash voted against a stopgap government funding bill that included $5.7 billion in border wall funding (the bill passed 217–185). In February 2019, Amash was the only House Republican to co-sponsor a resolution to block Trump’s declaration of a national emergency to redirect funds to build a wall on the wide-open US-Mexico border without a congressional appropriation for such a project.  Amash and Cong Ted Lieu (D-CA) introduced a bill to block the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) from financing its Cannabis Eradication Program through civil asset forfeiture.  Amash co-sponsored H.R. 1227, the Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act of 2017.  Amash opposed President Donald Trumps’ 2017 Executive Order to ban citizens of seven majority-Muslim countries from entering the United States.Tom comes from a family with a long history of serving their country.  His grandfather, Tech Sgt Oscar Norton, USA saw combat in the Pacific Theatre during WWII with the 3rd Battalion 126th infantry Regiment (3-126), the Ghost Mountain Boys in the 32nd Red Arrow Division, serving with General Douglas MacArthur.  His grandfather Navy Chief Petty Officer Robert Mays saw combat in the Pacific Theatre in Manila and in the submarine force during WWII.  In 1964, during the Vietnam conflict, his uncle Sgt Dave Thurston, USA served in the infantry and with the Riverine Force on patrol boats in the Mekong Delta; he retired as a Master Sergeant in 2002 ending his career in the military with 8 years active and 30 years in the National Guard.  During the Vietnam conflict, his Uncle, Cpl John Mays, USA served as a mechanic in Vietnam and was Honorably Discharged in 1969.  Although Tom’s father, Edward Norton, volunteered for duty in Vietnam twice, but was rejected because of a medial skin condition.   
 

Tom Norton was born on September 15, 1982, in Grand Rapids, MI, was raised in Rockford, MI, and attended Greenville High School, in Greenville, MI.  He wrestled and played football, graduating in June 2001.  In 2003, while Tom was employed as the manager of the grocery department in Meijers in Greenville, he studied online with American Intercontinental University in Hoffman Estates, IL; in 3 ½ years, in June 2006, Tom received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting and Economics. On  February 12, 2008, Thomas Norton was sworn into the US Army National Guard at the Military Entrance Processing station in Lansing, MI, and because he had a BA in Accounting and Economics he was given the rank a Specialist (E-4).  In April, 2008, SPCNorton departed for Basic and Advanced Individual Training with the First Battalion, 150th Infantry Regiment, which is permanently assigned at Fort Benning in Columbus, GA for all infantry training. 
In July 2008, upon completion of Boot Camp, SPC Tom Norton was assigned to the 1st Battalion126 Cavalry Unit (1-126 CAV) of the US Army National Guard, based in Wyoming, MI.  The 1-126th is the same Army National Guard Unit that his grandfather Tech Sgt Norton served in during WWII, after WWII it was switched from an Infantry Unit to a Cavalry Unit. 
 

In August 2009, Tom accepted a position as an Escalation Specialist with Charter Communications in Grand Rapid, MI.  From 2009 to 2011, Tom was the State Affiliates Coordinator for the Grand Rapids I-Caucus Group, which is a national organization established by former Congressman Chavez, in order to organize volunteers and help empower people to help candidates in politics, as an alternate to only seeking funding to support candidates in politics.  In 2011 he became the 3rd District Coordinator and still holds that position. 
SPC Norton deployed from Camp Shelby Army Base, located in Hattiesburg, MS to Afghanistan in December 2011 with 1-126 (CAV) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  They arrived at Camp Cobb, a Special Operations Command base housing Rangers, Navy Seals, DOA, FBI, and Green Berets, near Lashkar Gah in Helmand Province, Afghanistan; the unit was assigned for Scouting, Reconnaissance and Guard Duty.  SPC Norton was a team leader and was assigned base guard assignment, supervised and oversaw guest arrivals, and completed other necessary full spectrum operations.  In July 2012, SPC Norton returned to Camp Shelby. 
 

Upon returning to the States in July 2012, SPC Norton was promoted to Training NCO and assisted his battalion in moving soldiers back to the States. During this time, SPC Norton held Secret Security Clearance.  He oversaw mission training and battle operations for 1-126 CAV.  On September 17, 2013, SPC Norton was promoted to Sergeant.   In July 2013, Tom accepted a position as the District Marketing Manager with Bath Fitters in Wyoming, MI. 
 

Sgt Thomas Norton, USANG was Honorably Discharged on August 12, 2014 after serving 6 ½  years in the US Army National Guard.  His awards include the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, the NATO Medal, the Army Overseas Service Ribbon, and various Service and Campaign Medals. 
In October 2914, Tom accepted a position as the Market Development Manager and Owning Partner at Northern Michigan Installations in Cedar Springs, MI.  He was a trustee for The Village of Sand Lake from 2014 to 2016.  In 2016 Tom was elected Village President, where he worked to upgrade The Village infrastructure, balanced the budget, and secured government grants.  Tom helped found the West Michigan Veteran’s Ranch, a spiritual retreat to bring hope and help for local Veterans returning from combat.  In 2017, Tom accepted a position as the Commercial Sales Representative and District Sales Trainer with Leaf Filters Home Solutions in Grand Rapids, MI.  In April 2019, Tom announced his candidacy to run for Congress in the 3rd Congressional District of Michigan to take on Cong Justin Amash who switched parties from Republican to Independent, and voted to impeach President Trump. 
 

Tom Norton is a member of the American Legion (Tom was an American Legion Post Commander from 2014-2016), the NRA, and the VFW.  Tom, his wife Jami, and their children Sienna age 11, Caitlyn age 10, and Michael age 8 are active members of St. Paul Lutheran Church Located in Greenville, Michigan.  Tom has been endorsed by Kent County Commissioner Tom Antor, Calhoun County Commissioner Tommy Miller, Algoma Township Supervisor and former Michigan State Majority Whip Kevin Green, former State Senator and Candidate for Governor Patrick Colebeck, former RNC Committeeman and State Representative Col Dave Agema, USA (Ret), the Former Assistant Secretary of Energy under Ronald Reagan, the late Norman Hughes, multiple Township Trustees, Front Line For Freedom Radio Talk Show Host Lt Col Dennis J.
